Peter Mandelson

Lord Mandelson - "Prince of Darkness"

Prince of Darkness has built his reputation as a wily political operator in the shadows of Westminster.

UK - July 2010

Lord Mandelson signed an autograph as "the Dark Lord".

When Megan Jones, a fellow rail traveller, asked him to sign her newspaper with that name, Mr Mandelson obliged: "I used to be the prince of darkness, but being a peer of the realm I suppose I am the dark lord" he said to her singing her copy of the Guardian.

Miss Jones, 28, approached him on the train from London King's Cross to Newcastle, while he was standing in the aisle chatting to journalists. Next to a Guardian headline about Labour's "dreadful week", Lord Mandelson wrote:

"For Megan, love from Peter Mandelson pp The Dark Lord".

Perfect Dracula?

Lord Mandelson can earn million if he agreed to play the Count.
